My H1B extension was filed just one day before my I-485 was sent to NSC last July. I was able to get 3 years extension ...my company paid for premium processing though... I think you should be ok with filing the extension. Talk to your lawyer...

This is not correct. you can apply for 1 year extensions if you have applied for 485 and is pending.

My company filed my Perm on Jun 4th 08 but it is not yet approved. My H1B is in its 6th year and will end in July 09. I was wondering if I would get an extension , even if my Perm gets denied for some reason.
I just want to prepare for the worst case. Can any one please help with some information.
What are my options to get a H1B extension.

If your PERM is pending when the time comes for H1 extension, you can apply for a 1 year 7th year H1 extension, based of pending Labor and waiting more then 365 days.
If you PERM is denied. And you have neared the time of expiry of current H1, then its not possible to apply for H1 7th year extension. Because there is no grounds for extension.
Options:
1)Change the status from H1 to F1 or B1, until the time your PERM is approved, then come back to H1.
2) Go to your home country and return after 365, but you would be subjected to quota.

My Lawyer is saying that we cannot apply for AP without a valid reason and a valid paper such as someone is sick or wedding with a proof.
Is this true?

I had the same concerns on reading the instructions on the I-131 pplication form for the AP.
On page 2:
"Advance parole is an extraordinary measure used sparingly to bring an otherwise inadmissible alien to the United States or a temporary period of time due to a compelling emergency."
And later on page 4 section III B 1 they go on to say:
You may apply if you have an adjustment of status application pending and you seek to travel abroad for emergent personal or bona fide business reasons
However on confirming with my lawyer this is not really enforced by USCIS. You can request an AP without submitting proofs of personal emergency or a bonafide business reason, and USCIS will grant you an AP.
Is this true?

All,
I am starting this thread to track I-485 applications that did not receive receipt notices yet after filing in July-August
I filed on August 15th
No receipt notice yet as of Nov, 5, 2007
Anybody else in similar situation ?
My attorney received attorney's copy of 485/140 notices on Nov-14-2007. I didn't receive my copy so far as I had moved after filing my 485. However I used attorneys copies for filing my EAD etc.

I would suggest having a potluck in front of capitol and also see the cherry blossom in the evening. If possible a boating ride can be squeezed in.

Unless, people realize that it is in their interest to spread this grass root effort it is all futile. Do you guys really think that distributing fliers by four guys at the parade is going to make a difference.
Though I really commend what these guys did and they were truly heroes but if I were them, then based on the turn out (only 4 people) I would have decided to go back.
After all, these were not doing only for themselves but for every one else too.
