This marks the first time that a 22-inch wheel-and-tyre combination has been offered on a crossover. The eight-piece Edge Sport body kit includes a unique front air dam, side skirts, lower door caps and a rear skirt, all finished in body colour, instead of the dark lower on other Edge models. The front air dam features integrated fog lamps and a lower grille insert. These elements combine with the unique wheels and tyres to provide a sporty personality.

Details, like custom Sport badging, polished dual exhaust tips emerging from openings in the rear skirt and "foundry gray" smoked headlamp and taillamp lenses, add to its purposeful look.

In addition to lustrous Sport Blue paint on the model highlighted at the Chicago Auto Show, Edge Sport will be available in Ebony, Brilliant Silver and Redfire. Inside, dark gray leather seats feature unique suede-feel patterned inserts in a combination of light and dark gray. Contrasting, light gray stitching gives the seats a premium appeal. The contrasting stitched leather also is used on the Edge Sport steering wheel and shift knob.

Edge Sport is further distinguished by an appealing etched metal effect on the instrument panel center console.

"While custom-made to appeal to customers, Edge Sport is smart business," said Mark Fields, president of The Americas. "The aftermarket industry has grown to a $40 billion annual business, and crossovers are the fastest-growing vehicle segment in the U.S. We want customers who crave something special to know that Ford can customise their Edge – right at the factory."

Getting the tuner and customization set to see the Ford Edge as a subject worth messing with will take some effort, though the idea isn't the worst one. The latest is this tuner Edge, made over by suspension supplier H&R to showcase its sport springs, wheel spacers, camber adjustment bolts and other such aftermarket suspension kit. Of course, the Edge could use a bit of lowering, and a bit more taut feel for our own taste, formed by years of riding a scant few inches from the ground. The Edge benefits from a lower stance and more rubber, which gives its oddball geometry a squat muscularity. And somehow, the Edge looks best in a shade of orange, whether this searing Gemballa tint or Ford's own "Blazing Copper" metallic. The kids may not race to get on board, but we'll give it a pound. At least.

Remember the hot babe above who appeared together with the Ford Verve Concept that previewed the production new Ford Fiesta? Her name is Antonella and she’s a 28 year old woman who lives in Rome. Apparently she’s not real.

Antonella was also a “concept”, she was what Ford envisioned the Ford Fiesta’s consumer to be like. She was the personality for the Ford Verve Concept. She likes hanging out with friends, fun activities, clubbing and parties. And so did the Verve, or at least that’s what Ford says. It does look like a pretty fun car. The cellphone-like layout of the center dash area is meant to mirror her cellphone and the shape of the Verve’s instrument cluster pods are meant to mirror the kind of glasses she would wear.

You have to admit one thing though, the 3D rendering of her in the car above is pretty good! Look after the jump for one more photo of her.

There’s nothing wrong with driving a truck. In fact, most truck drivers take pride in their ride. The only problem some of them are having lately is the price of filling their tanks. Luckily, though, there are some ways you can save money on your fuel costs even with a truck. Here are five tips for spending less at the pump and enjoying your truck more.

1. Make sure the gas cap is tight. When the gas cap is loose, fuel can evaporate through the small opening. In fact, statistics show that drivers lose about 145 million gallons of gas overall through loose or missing gas caps. That’s a lot of gas!

2. Use fuel with lower octane. Unless your truck’s owner’s manual actually says to use premium, it’s probably not necessary. You might not even need it if the manufacturer recommends it. See how your truck runs on midgrade or regular for a couple tanks. You could be saving about five bucks each time you fill it up.

3. Turn off the air conditioning. Instead of using the A/C, park your car in shady spots and drive with the windows and the vents open. The A/C can often decrease your fuel efficiency by as much as 10 percent.

4. Take care of your truck. Engines run more efficiently when you take care of them. That means you should be making the scheduled oil changes, tune-ups and other preventative maintenance procedures.

5. Keep the tailgate up. The guys on Mythbusters did an experiment to see which was better for gas mileage – leaving the tailgate up or down. They found that leaving the tailgate down caused more drag than leaving it up, causing the truck to be less efficient. If you’ve been arguing with your friends about that concept, now you know who is right.

If you want to enjoy your Ford trucks but you’ve been hesitant about driving lately because of the gas prices, fear no more. With some very simple tips, you can save money on fuel and enjoy your truck as much as you want!

The first official image of the already-leaked 2009 Ford Ka has hit the web courtesy of the folks at CarTribe. Though we've seen shots of the car before, this is the first one we've seen given the photo studio treatment. As we reported, a Ford and Fiat agreement has led to a new Ka that shares many of its mechanicals with the cute and lovable Fiat 500. The car is supposed to be officially unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, so we're assuming we'll see more forthwith. Click here for the high-res version of the shot, then hit the jump.

The little Ford will be made in Poland and will come with either the 63 HP 1.2-liter, 100 HP 1.4-liter gas and 75 HP 1.3-liter Multijet diesel engine. The hope is that a Ford Ka ST will be introduced at some point with a significant power increase and an improved chassis.

Powered by an all-new, mid-engined powertrain producing 410kW of power and a gargantuan 678Nm of torque, Ford's giant-killing Ford GT made it's Australian debut at the 2004 AIMS.

The slinky supercar - based on the classic 1960s Le Mans winning GT40 - gets its huge power output from Ford's MOD engine family.

This includes performance powertrains like the 290kW 4.6-litre DOHC supercharged V8 in the SVT Mustang Cobra, as well as the 260kW 5.4-litre Boss V8 in the Falcon XR8 and the 290kW 5.4-litre quad-cam Boss V8 in the FPV GT, GT-P and Pursuit models.

"We're just starting to tap the performance potential of Ford's modular engine architecture," said Curt Hill, Ford GT powertrain engineering supervisor.

"This application really demonstrates its awesome potential. The 5.4-litre engine easily produces 410kW of power and 678Nm of torque, while meeting all the current emissions and durability standards. Those numbers are comparable to the race-prepared, blue-printed 427 (7.0-litre) big-blocks in the Ford GT40 race cars."

The Ford GT engine features an all-new aluminium block fitted with high-flow, four-valve cylinder heads and dual overhead camshafts. To bear the stresses necessary to produce 410kW, a forged-steel crankshaft, shot-peened H-beam connecting rods and forged aluminium pistons are used.

"In total, 85 percent of the reciprocating parts are unique to the Ford GT," Hill said.

Fuel is delivered via dual fuel injectors per cylinder, while a modified screw-type supercharger – blowing through a water-to-air intercooler – supplies sufficient airflow for engine output.

The GT's body is based on an aluminium space frame, which basically reduces overall weight while increasing rigidity and the aluminium body panels themselves are also quite advanced, as they've been manufactured using super-plastic forming (SPF).

"Super-plastic forming is fairly new for the industry," said Bill Clarke, Ford GT body structure supervisor. "It was a critical factor in producing the large sections, complex shapes and delicate accent lines of the concept vehicle. Large, intricate panels like the cantilevered doors simply would not have been feasible with traditional stampings."

To maximise passenger comfort, Ford GT chief designer Camilo Pardo and the engineering team made extensive use of a virtual-reality computer-modelling device called the digital occupant buck.

The device is a revolutionary step in CAD/CAM technology, enabling a virtual re-creation of the interior surfaces to be translated from the CAD data. With this 'immersive' tool the engineer can 'virtually' sit inside an interior buck.

A test engineer, wearing a video headset and fitted with magnetic target sensors on his body, can sit in any seat in a virtual car and experience the environment. Everything else – buttons, controls, pedals – is generated electronically as part of the virtual environment.

"The real advantage of the digital occupant tool is that it allows engineers to develop a comfortable interior for a wide range of statures," said Kip Ewing, Ford GT Package, Prototype and Launch Supervisor.

"As an example, I could sit in the Ford GT seats as a fifth-percentile female and evaluate her reach to major controls. Five minutes later, I could sit in the car as a 95th-percentile male and evaluate his outward visibility."

As a result of this testing, Ewing tweaked the occupant package for the maximum range of accommodation. This included obvious improvements, such as maximising seat travel and headroom. While such things may sound trivial for a passenger car, many buyers of exotic cars often find it hard to fit in such rare vehicles, and this was an area Ford was keen to get right, allowing a wider range of drivers access to the cockpit.
